To All;
This is a part of an e-mail sent to me by a close
friend. We had been talking about how your mind roams as you get
older. For those of you who know him: yes, Ben is the famous Ben
Breedlove!
Will
Now on
a personal note, it seems the older I become the more often I am
thinking
about the hereafter! It used to be only once or twice a day but
now
it's every time I walk into a room. I stop and think, now what am I
here
after? Have
decided this must be the dreaded triple A double D syndrome. What? You
say
you haven't heard of AAADD? Naturally, that acronym identifies Age
Activated
Attention Deficit Disorder. Here
is one of my normal AAADD days. I
decide to wash the jeep. As I head for the carport, I notice the mail on
the
hall table. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the
car. I lay
my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the trash can
under
the table and notice that the waste basket is full. So, I put the
bills
back on the table and decide to take out the trash
first. But
then I think, since I am going to be passing the mailbox when I take out
the
trash, I will pay the bills and mail
them. I take
the check book out of my pack that is on the hall table, only to find
that
there is only one check left. My extra checks are in the study. So I go
to my
desk where I find the cup of tea I was drinking. It is now cold so I
decide
to take it to the kitchen and heat it up in the
microwave. As I
head toward the kitchen I notice the potted plant has not been watered.
I set
my tea down on the counter and discover my glasses that I have been
looking
for all morning. I
decide to put them back on my desk, but first I am going to water the
plant.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with
water
and notice the TV remote. Someone has left it on the kitchen
table. I
realize that tonight when we go to watch the BBC news we will be looking
for
the remote. However, I may not remember that it is on the kitchen table,
so I
decide to put it back in the sunroom where it belongs, but first I will
water
the plant. I pour
some water on the plant but most of it runs off the leaves on to the
floor.
So I set the remote back down on the table, get some paper towels and
wipe
up the water. Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was
planning
to do?? At the end of this normal day: the jeep is still dirty, the bills aren't paid, there is a cold cup of tea on the counter, the plant looks really dry, there is still only one check in my checkbook, I can't find the TV remote, my glasses have disappeared, plus I have no idea where the Jeep keys are?? When I
try to figure out why nothing got done today, I am baffled because I
know I
was very busy all day long, and I am really
tired! I realize this is a serious problem. So, I think I will do some research on the Web to see if there is any help or advice for AAADD, but first, I wonder if the Jeep needs washing?! All
the best, BEN Will
